Exodus 20:16 meaning and explanation
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Exodus 20:16, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The words come from the Decalogue given at Sinai, where God speaks to Israel freshly freed from Egypt and now bound to Him by covenant. The setting is legal and communal: this command concerns testimony in a dispute, the formal statement that could condemn or clear a neighbor.
