Exodus 20:19 meaning and explanation
“Speak to us yourself and we will listen,” they said to Moses. “But do not let God speak to us, or we will die.”
Exodus 20:19, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The people have just heard God speak the Ten Commandments from the smoking, quaking mountain, and they are terrified. They beg Moses to act as mediator, to relay God's words rather than let them hear the divine voice directly, which they fear will kill them.
