Moses has just written down the words and ordinances the LORD spoke at Sinai, and he now reads that record aloud to the assembled Israelites camped at the foot of the mountain. Their double answer, first a promise to do everything the LORD said and then a pledge of obedience, renews the commitment they made in verse 3, this time in response to a written text.
