Exodus 3:14 meaning and explanation

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

Exodus 3:14, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Moses is still at the burning bush on Horeb, sent to Pharaoh but worried the Israelites will ask for God's name. God answers with "I AM WHO I AM," echoing the Hebrew verb hayah, "to be." The name speaks of God's self-existent, unending life and his freedom to be present with his people.
