Ezekiel 18:26 meaning and explanation

If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and practices iniquity, he will die for this. He will die because of the iniquity he has committed.

Ezekiel 18:26, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God is answering the exiles in Babylon, who complained that they were being punished for their ancestors' sins. In verse 26 he restates the principle he has been pressing: each person's standing before God turns on that person's own conduct, not on a family's record.
