Ezekiel 36:22 meaning and explanation

Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, O house of Israel, but for My holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you went.

Ezekiel 36:22, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Ezekiel is speaking to the exiles in Babylon, and God is answering Israel's complaint that he has treated them as the nations do. The people had defiled the land and were scattered, and their exile made God's name look weak among the nations, as if he could not protect his own.
