Ezekiel 4:13 meaning and explanation

Then the LORD said, “This is how the Israelites will eat their defiled bread among the nations to which I will banish them.”

Ezekiel 4:13, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God is speaking to Ezekiel, the prophet among the exiles in Babylon, and explaining the meaning of the sign he has just commanded. The bread baked over human excrement, which Ezekiel protested in the next verse, pictures what exile will be like: food eaten in ritual uncleanness among foreign peoples, far from the temple and its purity.
