Ezekiel 4:3 meaning and explanation

Then take an iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between yourself and the city. Turn your face toward it so that it is under siege, and besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.

Ezekiel 4:3, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God tells Ezekiel, a prophet among the exiles in Babylon, to act out Jerusalem's coming siege using a brick, a ramp and camps. The iron plate becomes a wall between the prophet and the city, showing that God himself is set against Jerusalem, closed off and unyielding.
