Ezekiel 44:19 meaning and explanation

When they go out to the outer court, to the people, they are to take off the garments in which they have ministered, leave them in the holy chambers, and dress in other clothes so that they do not transmit holiness to the people with their garments.

Ezekiel 44:19, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

In Ezekiel's vision of the restored temple, the Lord gives the prophet detailed rules for the Zadokite priests. These priests minister in linen garments inside the inner court and temple, but when they go out to the outer court where the people gather, they must first remove those garments and leave them in the holy chambers, then dress in ordinary clothes.
