Ezekiel 46:17 meaning and explanation

But if he gives a gift from his inheritance to one of his servants, it will belong to that servant until the year of freedom; then it will revert to the prince. His inheritance belongs only to his sons; it shall be theirs.

Ezekiel 46:17, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Ezekiel is being shown a vision of a restored temple and land, and here the Lord sets limits on the prince's gifts. A gift of land to a servant is real but temporary: it lasts until the year of freedom, the jubilee release described in Leviticus 25, when property returns to its original family.
