Ezekiel 48:35 meaning and explanation

The perimeter of the city will be 18,000 cubits, and from that day on the name of the city will be: THE LORD IS THERE.”

Ezekiel 48:35, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Ezekiel has been shown a vision of restored Israel, and here he records the final detail: the city's perimeter and its new name. The Hebrew name is YHWH Shammah, meaning "The LORD is there." Throughout the book, God's glory had departed from Jerusalem because of the people's sin, but this closing line announces that his presence has returned to dwell among them permanently.
