Ezra 6:8 meaning and explanation
I hereby decree what you must do for these elders of the Jews who are rebuilding this house of God: The cost is to be paid in full to these men from the royal treasury out of the taxes of the provinces west of the Euphrates, so that the work will not be hindered.
Ezra 6:8, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
King Darius is writing to Tattenai, the governor of the province west of the Euphrates, who had questioned whether the Jews were authorized to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. After a search of the royal archives turned up Cyrus's earlier decree, Darius not only confirms the project but orders that its full cost be paid from provincial tax revenue, so the work would not be hindered.
