Galatians 2:5 meaning and explanation

We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel would remain with you.

Galatians 2:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is recalling his visit to Jerusalem, where false brothers had slipped in to spy on the freedom believers have in Christ and to press Gentile converts toward circumcision and law keeping. Speaking of himself and his companions, he says they refused to yield even briefly, not out of stubbornness but to protect the gospel's truth for the Galatian churches.
