Genesis 20:3 meaning and explanation
One night, however, God came to Abimelech in a dream and told him, “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken, for she is a married woman.”
Genesis 20:3, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
God speaks here to Abimelech, the king of Gerar, who has taken Sarah into his household because Abraham claimed she was his sister. The verse is the turning point of the story: the king acted in ignorance, yet the danger is real, and God intervenes directly in a dream to stop the harm before it happens.
