Genesis 27:20 meaning and explanation

But Isaac asked his son, “How did you ever find it so quickly, my son?” “Because the LORD your God brought it to me,” he replied.

Genesis 27:20, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Isaac, old and blind, is suspicious that the game has been prepared so quickly, and Jacob answers with a lie that drags God into the deception. The words “the LORD your God” are telling: Jacob speaks of God as his father’s God, not his own, and uses the divine name to make his fraud sound like providence.
