Genesis 29:31 meaning and explanation
When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.
Genesis 29:31, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jacob has just married both sisters, and the narrator states plainly that Leah was unloved while Rachel was the one he favored. The Hebrew word here, sanuah, means hated or rejected, and it describes Leah's place in the household rather than God's own feeling toward her.
