Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” “The serpent deceived me,” she replied, “and I ate.”

God questions the woman directly, as He had questioned the man, giving her room to speak rather than pronouncing sentence at once. Her answer is true as far as it goes: the serpent did deceive her, and the Hebrew word here carries the sense of being led astray or tricked.
