Genesis 30:32 meaning and explanation

Let me go through all your flocks today and remove from them every speckled or spotted sheep, every dark-colored lamb, and every spotted or speckled goat. These will be my wages.

Genesis 30:32, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jacob is speaking to his father-in-law Laban after fourteen years of service, and he proposes his own wages rather than letting Laban name them. He asks to keep the animals that are normally culled from a flock: the speckled and spotted goats and the dark-colored lambs, which in that region were the less common markings.
