Genesis 30:41 meaning and explanation

Whenever the stronger females of the flock were in heat, Jacob would place the branches in the troughs, in full view of the animals, so that they would breed in front of the branches.

Genesis 30:41, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jacob is still working for his father-in-law Laban, and the previous verses describe his unusual breeding strategy with the flocks. Here he sets the peeled branches only before the stronger females, so the robust young would be born streaked or spotted and so become his wages, while the weaker animals went to Laban.
