Genesis 36:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
This verse is a heading in the family record of Esau, Jacob's twin brother, and it marks a shift from Esau's move away from Canaan to the listing of his descendants in Mount Seir, the hill country southeast of the Dead Sea. The phrase "father of the Edomites" identifies Esau as the ancestor of a whole people, and the Hebrew word for father, av, can mean both a literal parent and a founder of a line.
