Genesis 48:16 meaning and explanation
the angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may He bless these boys. And may they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they grow into a multitude upon the earth.”
Genesis 48:16, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jacob, old and nearly blind, is blessing Joseph's two sons in Egypt, and this line belongs to one long prayer. He names God as the one his fathers walked before and as his own shepherd, then adds "the angel who has redeemed me from all harm." The Hebrew word mal'ak can mean a heavenly messenger or a human one, and here it sits inside a blessing that asks this angel to bless the boys.
