Genesis 49:1, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jacob, nearing death in Egypt, gathers his twelve sons to speak a final word over each of them. The phrase "in the days to come" translates a Hebrew expression (acharit hayyamim) that points to the distant future, often translated "the last days." So this is more than a deathbed farewell; it frames the blessings and rebukes that follow as a prophetic word about the tribes' future.
