Genesis 7:17 meaning and explanation
For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and the waters rose and lifted the ark high above the earth.
Genesis 7:17, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The narrator continues the flood account: after God shut Noah in (verse 16), the rain that began in verse 11 keeps falling for the full forty days. The rising waters are not merely destructive; they lift the ark, so the same flood that judges the earth carries the family safely above it.
