I have set My rainbow in the clouds, and it will be a sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

God is speaking to Noah and his sons after the flood, and here he names the sign of the covenant he has just established with them and with every living creature. The Hebrew word qeshet means a bow, the weapon of a hunter or warrior, and it is the ordinary word for a rainbow.
