Haggai 1:9 meaning and explanation
You expected much, but behold, it amounted to little. And what you brought home, I blew away. Why? declares the LORD of Hosts. Because My house still lies in ruins, while each of you is busy with his own house.
Haggai 1:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The LORD speaks through Haggai to the returned exiles in Jerusalem, who had let the temple rebuilding stall while they improved their own homes. Their harvests and wages disappointed them, and God names the reason: his house lay in ruins while each was busy with his own.
