Haggai 2:7 meaning and explanation

I will shake all the nations, and they will come with all their treasures, and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of Hosts.

Haggai 2:7, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD speaks through Haggai to Zerubbabel the governor, Joshua the high priest, and the returned remnant, who are rebuilding the temple and grieving that it looks shabby beside Solomon's. Verse 7 belongs to that encouragement: God promises a coming shaking of the nations, and the Hebrew word here for what they bring, chemdah, means "desirable things" or "treasure," so the nations will bring their wealth into the house, and God himself will fill it with glory.
