The writer is quoting Psalm 110:4 to show that God himself installed Jesus as high priest, just as verse 5 quoted Psalm 2:7. Melchizedek appears only briefly in Genesis 14, a priest-king of Salem who blessed Abraham and received a tenth of his spoils.
