Hosea 2:1 meaning and explanation
“Say of your brothers, ‘My people,’ and of your sisters, ‘My loved one.’
Hosea 2:1, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
The verse opens the chapter by reversing the names God gave in chapter 1, where a son was called Lo-Ammi, "not my people," and a daughter Lo-Ruhamah, "no compassion." Here the prophet is told to speak tenderly to his own children, calling brothers "My people" (Hebrew ammi) and sisters "My loved one" (ruhamah, from the same root as compassion). Within the unfolding story of Hosea's broken marriage, this is a word of restoration spoken before the rebuke that follows.
