Hosea 8:13 meaning and explanation

Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.

Hosea 8:13, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Hosea speaks to the northern kingdom of Israel in the eighth century BC, and in verse 13 God answers a people who keep bringing sacrifices while their hearts are far from him. The meat they eat from the offerings is real, but the LORD does not accept them, because ritual without obedience is empty.
