Isaiah 10:2 meaning and explanation

to deprive the poor of fair treatment and withhold justice from the oppressed of My people, to make widows their prey and orphans their plunder.

Isaiah 10:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Isaiah continues the woe begun in verse 1, and the speaker is the LORD through the prophet, addressing the lawmakers and officials of Judah who use their authority for personal gain. This verse names the practical result of unjust statutes: the poor are denied a fair hearing, and the most vulnerable, widows and orphans, who had no one to plead for them, become prey to be plundered.
