Prepare a place to slaughter his sons for the iniquities of their forefathers. They will never rise up to possess a land or cover the earth with their cities.
Isaiah 14:21, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Isaiah 14 is a taunt song the prophet gives Israel to sing over the fallen king of Babylon, whose pride reached the grave. Verse 21 belongs to that song and voices the ancient world's understanding that a dynasty's guilt falls on its heirs: the king's sons are to be cut off so the family never rebuilds its empire.
