Isaiah 15:4 meaning and explanation

Heshbon and Elealeh cry out; their voices are heard as far as Jahaz. Therefore the soldiers of Moab cry out; their souls tremble within.

Isaiah 15:4, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Isaiah 15 is a prophetic oracle spoken by Isaiah to Judah, announcing judgment on Moab, Israel's neighbor east of the Dead Sea. Here the towns themselves seem to cry out: Heshbon and Elealeh in northern Moab, and Jahaz farther south, so the wailing carries across the whole land.
