Isaiah 23:16 meaning and explanation

“Take up your harp, stroll through the city, O forgotten harlot. Make sweet melody, sing many a song, so you will be remembered.”

Isaiah 23:16, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Isaiah has just announced that Tyre, the great merchant city, will be forgotten for seventy years, and he compares her to a prostitute whose clients have moved on. In verse 16 the city is told to take up a harp and walk the streets singing, the way a forgotten harlot would try to attract attention again.
