Isaiah 30:6 meaning and explanation

This is the burden against the beasts of the Negev: Through a land of hardship and distress, of lioness and lion, of viper and flying serpent, they carry their wealth on the backs of donkeys and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people of no profit to them.

Isaiah 30:6, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Isaiah is speaking to Judah in the late eighth century BC, when Assyria threatened and Judah's leaders looked to Egypt for rescue instead of trusting the LORD. Verse 6 pictures the caravan itself: donkeys and camels hauling treasure through the Negev, the dry southern wilderness, a route of hardship and danger.
