Isaiah 33:9 meaning and explanation
The land mourns and languishes; Lebanon is ashamed and decayed. Sharon is like a desert; Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.
Isaiah 33:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Isaiah 33 addresses Judah under threat from a ruthless enemy, likely Assyria, whose broken treaty has emptied the roads. In verse 9 the prophet pictures the whole landscape grieving: Lebanon, the famed cedar region to the north, is ashamed and withers; Sharon, the fertile coastal plain, has become like desert; Bashan and Carmel, rich pasture and forest country, shed their leaves.
