Isaiah 46:11 meaning and explanation

I summon a bird of prey from the east, a man for My purpose from a far-off land. Truly I have spoken, and truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, and I will surely do it.

Isaiah 46:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

God is speaking through Isaiah to the house of Jacob, exiles in Babylon who felt abandoned. The bird of prey from the east is widely understood as Cyrus, the Persian king whose conquests ended Babylon's power; God names him as the one summoned for His purpose, though Cyrus did not know Him.
