Isaiah has just pronounced woes on Judah's wealthy landholders, drinkers and corrupt judges, and announced that exile and Sheol will swallow Zion's nobles and crowds. Verse 15 states the result: humanity is brought low and every person humbled, and the eyes of the arrogant, literally those whose eyes are lifted up, are cast down.
