Isaiah 55:1 meaning and explanation

“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you without money, come, buy, and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost!

Isaiah 55:1, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Isaiah 55 opens with the LORD speaking through the prophet to exiles in Babylon, inviting them to a feast they cannot afford. The Hebrew word for thirsty, tsame, pictures real physical need, and the call to buy wine and milk without money is a marketplace image turned upside down: the poorest are welcomed to the richest fare.
