James 1:21 meaning and explanation
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls.
James 1:21, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
James has just said that human anger does not produce God's righteousness, so he draws a conclusion for his readers, the scattered believers he addresses as "brothers." The Greek word translated "get rid of" is a strong term for stripping something off, like removing a soiled garment. "Moral filth" and "every expression of evil" are to be put away deliberately, while the "word planted in you" is received, not achieved.
