James 5:3 meaning and explanation

Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and consume your flesh like fire. You have hoarded treasure in the last days.

James 5:3, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

James is addressing wealthy landowners who have hoarded goods and withheld wages (verses 4 and 5). Gold and silver do not actually corrode, so his image is deliberately shocking: their wealth is already ruined and will serve as evidence against them in God's court.
