Jeremiah 21 opens with King Zedekiah sending two officials to ask the prophet to seek the LORD on Judah's behalf, since Babylon is besieging Jerusalem. In verse 3 Jeremiah refuses to send back a comforting oracle and instead gives the messengers a reply addressed directly to the king.
