Jeremiah 23:9 meaning and explanation

As for the prophets: My heart is broken within me, and all my bones tremble. I have become like a drunkard, like a man overcome by wine, because of the LORD, because of His holy words.

Jeremiah 23:9, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Jeremiah himself speaks in this verse, and he is shaken. Having announced the coming righteous Branch and the regathering of the flock, he turns to the prophets of his own day and describes what God's holy words have done to him: a broken heart, trembling bones, the stagger of a drunk man.
