The LORD is speaking to the prophet Jeremiah in a vision, showing him two baskets of figs set before the temple. In the verses that follow, the good figs represent the exiles taken to Babylon, whom God will restore, and the bad figs represent King Zedekiah and those who remained in Jerusalem and Egypt.
