When the officials of Judah heard these things, they went up from the king’s palace to the house of the LORD and sat there at the entrance of the New Gate.

Jeremiah has just finished preaching in the temple courtyard, and the priests, prophets and people have seized him and demanded his death for saying the temple would become like Shiloh. The officials of Judah, hearing the uproar, leave the royal palace and come up to the temple, taking their seats at the entrance of the New Gate.
