But now please listen, O my lord the king. May my petition come before you. Do not send me back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I will die there.”

Jeremiah is speaking to King Zedekiah in the palace, having been brought up from a dungeon cell. The king had asked him privately for a word from the LORD, and Jeremiah answered honestly that the city would fall to Babylon.
