Jeremiah 5:27 meaning and explanation
Like cages full of birds, so their houses are full of deceit. Therefore they have become powerful and rich.
Jeremiah 5:27, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Jeremiah is speaking to Judah in the years before Babylon's invasion, and in verse 27 he pictures the wealthy of Jerusalem as birdcatchers whose traps have worked: their houses are as crowded with deceit as cages are with captured birds. The Hebrew word for deceit, mirmah, carries the sense of fraud and treachery, so the wealth described here was gained by cheating others, not by honest trade.
