The LORD speaks through Jeremiah during Babylon's rise to power, announcing Babylon's coming fall and, in the middle of that judgment, Israel's restoration. The northern kingdom had been scattered by Assyria and Judah taken into exile by Babylon, so the two divided peoples are pictured returning as one.
