Jeremiah 9:26 meaning and explanation

Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, Moab, and all the inhabitants of the desert who clip the hair of their temples. For all these nations are uncircumcised, and the whole house of Israel is uncircumcised in heart.”

Jeremiah 9:26, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD continues the sentence begun in verse 25, naming nations he will punish: Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, Moab, and desert peoples who clip the hair at their temples, a practice associated with mourning or devotion to other gods. Circumcision marked Israel as set apart, yet the LORD says the whole house of Israel is uncircumcised in heart.
