Job 14:21 meaning and explanation

If his sons receive honor, he does not know it; if they are brought low, he is unaware.

Job 14:21, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Job is speaking to God in a lament about human frailty and death. Having pictured the grave as a place from which no one rouses (verses 11 and 12), he draws out what that silence means for a parent: the dead man has no share in what happens to his children.
