Job 36:17 meaning and explanation

But now you are laden with the judgment due the wicked; judgment and justice have seized you.

Job 36:17, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Elihu, a younger bystander, has been arguing that suffering is God's corrective discipline and that Job should accept it. In verse 17 he turns from general principle to direct accusation, telling Job that his present troubles look like the sentence a wicked person deserves, as though judgment had caught him and would not let go.
